PPE Training Simulator

Promote patient safety with healthcare PPE training

PIXO VR PPE training for healthcare workers is an immersive virtual reality experience to practice three key hygiene procedures: hand hygiene, donning, and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE). VR personal protective equipment training has been shown to reduce mistakes in hospitals by 38% when removing PPE, which lowers the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19 or other viruses and bacteria. This training has been developed by SmartTek according to CDC and WHO guidelines and includes information from these sources.

What You'll Learn

This VR training is a 3-step clinical training on PPE use where staff at medical and healthcare workplaces can practice using personal protective equipment in a safe environment. The hands-on simulation includes:

  • Practicing hand washing (hand hygiene, hand scrubs)
  • Putting on (donning) personal protective equipment
  • Taking off (doffing) and safely disposing of personal protective equipment

The VR Experience

Hand hygiene is the first step of the PPE online training to avoid health hazards. It is based on CDC guidelines and provides washing hands with soap and water for at least 1 minute. The VR training contains 14 steps and helps clean hands precisely. The training utilizes motion capture technology and gloves with controllers for very accurate hand recognition and the ability to provide healthcare personnel with feedback on how accurately and correctly steps of handwashing are performed. The next stage is PPE donning, which involves the correct performing of gowning and gloving. The VR experience shows and then verifies in which order you perform putting on key personal protective equipment: isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator, face shield, and gloves. Doffing is the last and most significant stage of PPE due to the high patient and occupational safety risks of contamination for COVID-19 and other bacteria. There are several alternatives to removing and disposing of protective equipment to prevent skin, clothes, or membranes from infecting. The PPE training course teaches healthcare professionals to don PPE in the order: gloves, face shield, gown, and respirator. The last step is to wash hands properly. This doffing approach is based on the CDC guidelines. Successful execution of this PPE online training will fulfill the requirement for PPE training for healthcare workers and earn a certificate of completion.
