AED - Automated External Defibrillator Training

Ensure corporate safety teams are ready to provide first aid for cardiac arrest

This AED or automated external defibrillator VR training provides corporate safety teams with the instruction needed to earn first aid certification for delivering cardiac defibrillation. Employees will learn proper automated external defibrillator use. Learners will be required to accurately recognize and respond to a case of cardiac arrest, send someone to call for medical help, work closely alongside a rescuer performing CPR, and demonstrate their learning by administering defibrillation to a patient’s heart until help arrives.

What You'll Learn

This automated external defibrillator VR training course provides critical first aid knowledge for corporate first responders to safely handle sudden cardiac arrest. The VR technology provides training to use a defibrillator that satisfies the requirements for AED certification. This first aid skills training and practical assessment includes:

  • Automated external defibrillator training for when and how to use.
  • Learning how to recognize and respond to a case of cardiac arrest.
  • The proper steps in automated external defibrillator use.
  • How to coordinate with someone administering CPR.
  • How to perform defibrillation to a patient’s heart with an AED until help arrives.

The VR Experience

The virtual reality training to use a defibrillator breaks down the steps to perform when face-to-face with a sudden cardiac arrest medical emergency. The AED training starts with tutorials to learn the correct skills and steps for ventricular fibrillation. When ready to be assessed for first aid certification, the learner starts the training by entering an office environment simulation where they will find an employee who is unconscious. The learner will need to attempt to wake the victim, check for a heart rhythm, then instruct a colleague to contact 911 or appropriate medical emergency team. Next the learner needs to instruct a colleague to perform CPR on the victim. The learner must then demonstrate their skill to find and deploy the AED device, which includes turning on the defibrillator and attaching the defibrillation pads appropriately on the victim’s chest. Next the learn must clear the area and activate the AED to deliver the electric charge for ventricular fibrillation. Next, the learner must signal for CPR to resume. This emergency process will be repeated between AED and CPR until the patient regains consciousness and a steady heart rhythm or until cardiac emergency medical help arrives to take over. Once the AED training scenario is complete, the learner returns to the starting room where they can review their score and see if they earned their first aid certificate. Reasons why learners may fail defibrillator training includes not coordinating the required CPR application, improper AED use, or most commonly, not completing the scenario within 2 minutes. Obtaining a healthy heart rhythm and patient survival in this cardiac arrest simulation are not required to earn the first aid certificate.
