VR first aid training so employees can confidently handle electrical burns or deep lacerations

This virtual reality first aid training provides employees with a life-like experience to learn and practice basic first aid skills. Electrical burns and cuts can be common occurrences in many fields from construction to manufacturing. Training employees to handle first aid situations is an important part of on-the-job skills. This first aid training uses virtual reality for learning a hands-on approach to first aid. Employees will have to react to a coworker’s injury, gather supplies, perform stabilizing first aid, contact emergency services, and properly follow up after first aid is complete. Completion and certification requires passing this training without making too many errors. Trainees have two chances to correctly complete the virtual reality experience and earn their first aid certificate.

What You'll Learn

This virtual reality first aid training certification is used to assess basic first aid learning and application via two emergency scenarios—electrical burns and deep lacerations. The virtual first aid training assessment includes performing the following basic skills:

  • Assessing the emergency scenario, identifying hazards, and taking action to remove them
  • Learning the patient condition
  • Contacting emergency services
  • Gathering appropriate medical supplies to treat the patient
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE) properly
  • Providing appropriate first aid treatment to the patient
  • Monitoring the patient and ensuring appropriate transfer to emergency services
  • Contacting manager to appropriately report the incident

The VR Experience

The VR first aid training certification begins with the user first selecting the burn or laceration scenario. Once in the virtual reality training scenario, the user must approach the patient and first identify and remove any safety hazards from the VR scene. The user must then assess the patient condition by asking the questions learned in first aid training. Next, users need to contact emergency services and provide accurate information on the patient condition Once emergency services have been notified within the VR simulation, the first responder must gather appropriate medical supplies to treat the wound. Before basic treatment begins, the employee must demonstrate donning of appropriate PPE. Next, the VR user treats the wound with basic first aid. Note, the wound care is different for each VR scenario and appropriate skills need to be demonstrated for each. The employee completes the virtual first aid course by monitoring the patient, ensuring safe transfer to emergency services, and finally by reporting the incident to their manager. For each VR experience in the training, the user gets two chances to complete each step correctly in order to pass the training and earn their certificate of completion for correctly performing first aid in workplace emergencies.

This virtual reality first aid training module is often used with CPR and AED training for a complete first aid certification and training program.
